It is increasingly common for there to be a planning requirement for a record of a listed building to be made before alterations can proceed, or for research to be undertaken before listed building consent can be considered. The Historic Environment Consultancy is a specialist consultancy that can produce anything required by the planning system. The partners are all leading advisors on the Historic Environment and have been involved in many projects throughout the country from the largest to a small extension. We have an enviable record of success in achieving consents in difficult circumstances. We use cutting edge technology to provide a high quality product at a reasonable cost.
We have a basic
conservation philosophy in that informed conservation usually means the
client can achieve their objectives while the character and things that make
the building special are retained. It is often not obvious what is special
and thus what will and will not be allowable. We provide that insight.

The services we offer are:
|
Dr Peter Wardle - who has over 30 years experience of the historic environment and is the practice's expert witness. He is an Advisor to the Diocese of Ipswich and St Edmundsbury.
Terraced houses, medieval moated manor houses, stately homes, stables, timber framed barns, churches, dovecotes, barns, cart sheds, coaching inns, Georgian houses, pumping stations, bridges, airfields, pillboxes, Victorian houses, soup kitchens, humble cottages, cricket pavilions, public houses, medieval hall houses and similar.
In most cases what is required is a photographic survey of the building, brief research of its history, and annotation of the other drawings required for planning - a simple quick exercise. Often a list of what is and is not original simplifies the situation.

FAQs Q. I have loads of photographs anyway. Why can't these be used? A. The photographs are required be taken in a certain way, to a certain standard and features of interest have to be identified. An archive of the photographs and a report about the building has to be prepared. Q. I have researched the history of my house. Is this sufficient? A. Many home owners wish to research the history of their own property and this will be of use to us but research is a skill like anything else so we will still need to do certain things. Money can be saved by undertaking research with our supervision. |
